The analyst who had to become his own case study
Before I was "The Terrain Dad," I was a credit analyst with a health file thicker than any loan book I'd ever reviewed.
For twenty-five years I've assessed risk for financial institutions — reading systems, spotting the cracks before they spread, understanding how small weaknesses compound into collapse. I never expected to run that analysis on my own body.
But that's what happened. A long stretch of declining health forced me to look past individual symptoms and ask a systems question: what is the terrain underneath all of this, and why did it stop holding? The answers weren't in any single prescription. They were in foundations — light exposure, circadian rhythm, gut ecology, the daily environment I'd stopped paying attention to.
So I did what an analyst does. I documented everything. I studied, tested, adjusted, and measured over several years. That documented journey became the foundation of everything I now teach.
Then I became a father — and the mission sharpened. I don't want my daughter inheriting a reactive relationship with her health. I want her growing up in a household where the terrain is tended: real light, real rhythm, real food, real rest. "The Terrain Dad" isn't a persona. It's the job description I gave myself the day she was born.
25 years reading risk
Credit and risk analysis across financial institutions — a career spent understanding how systems hold, and how they fail.
My own system failed
A multi-year health decline that conventional, symptom-by-symptom approaches never fully resolved.
A documented restoration
Years of self-directed study and terrain restoration — recorded, measured, and refined into a repeatable framework.
Body Light Company, 2022
I founded a practice built on light, rhythm, and terrain — and began working with clients.
The Terrain Dad
One clear mission: helping parents build households where health has ground to grow from.
Principles from the risk desk, applied at home
Root causes over symptoms
You don't fix a failing system by patching alerts. We look for the foundational conditions and address those first.
Measure, then adjust
Every recommendation comes with a way to observe whether it's working — in energy, sleep, mood, and daily function.
Work alongside your care
Terrain work is education and lifestyle coaching. It complements the care of your physicians — it never replaces it.
